Description of LifeSpark's Support and Expenses
This page contains a description of the items in the Support and Expense columns of the Financial Statements.
Sources of Income
- Individual Donors - all donations from individuals
- Long Term Pledges - pledges of support by individuals for the next three to five years
- Foundations and Grants - funds from foundations and organizations
- Program Fees - Sliding scale fees paid by individuals with cancer as well as fees paid by volunteers attending the training weekend
- Interest and Other - Interest and
miscellaneous income
- Donated Services - Volunteer time donated for Reiki and Healing Touch sessions (valued at $40 per hour) as well as time donated for other types of volunteer activities
- Donated Space - Space that hospitals and churches donate to LifeSpark so that we can conduct our work (generally valued at $20 per hour)
- Donated Supplies

Below are examples of how the funds are spent.
Program Expenses
- Program Navigator who screens and matches individuals with cancer to Reiki and Healing Touch providers, follows up to insure match is going well, and problem solves on scheduling and other complications
- New Provider Seminars twice a year to train and orient new Reiki and Healing Touch providers
- Research materials and evaluation of those materials
- Educational materials
- Coordination of outreach activities such as booths and demonstrations at health fairs and oncology events
- Coordination of sessions at oncology offices and churches
- Portion of Executive Director time
Operating Expenses
- Bookkeeping and financial review
- Insurance
- Portion of Executive Director time
Fundraising Expenses
- Touching Tomorrow fundraising breakfast
- Grant writing and direct mail
- Portion of Executive Director time
Donated Services/Space
This is an offsetting entry from the Income column to zero out the cash impact of donated services and space. |
